The 7-Minute Speed-Writing Journal Through Grief
About
Mindy Christie, Author
The 7-Minute Speed-Writing Journal Through Grief is designed for anyone who is or was dealing with grief. This may also include the grief of an event such as the loss of a job or one’s home burning down. Age is not limited in this one-of-a-kind writing experience.
This technique presents the writer with a situation such as A wolf pack howled nearby while on a distant hill a campfire blazed. The writer and their loved one step into the situation and respond by writing as fast as possible about what is going on around them. After 5 min. the writer answers a meta cognition question, thinking about what is written. There will be a change in the middle of the writing. An unexpected insight or sense of relief happens that most people find surprising.
The author spent 30 years teaching creative writing at the secondary level as well as guiding a Hospice group through this simple and effective way of writing.
This method is different from other journal writing and books about grief. It gives an opening, a gate to let grief through and may bring friends and family together by building understanding.
Writing at laser speed skims the surface of the brain. With each skimming we go deeper into the brain’s remembrance.
Fast writing takes away the fear of talking about the loved one. This approachable method of growing memories, once experienced, rejuvenates one’s own memories, moving them from a sad or despairing place to a renewed, realistic one.
